Powerflushing
A powerflush clears the sludge and scale out of your heating system so radiators heat evenly and the boiler stops working so hard.

Over the years, central heating systems build up black sludge and scale. It collects at the bottom of radiators, clogs pipes and makes the pump and boiler work harder than they should. The tell-tale signs are radiators that are cold at the bottom, rooms that take ages to warm up, noisy pipes and a boiler that keeps breaking down.
A powerflush pumps water and cleaning chemicals through the whole system at high flow, radiator by radiator, until the water runs clean. We then refill with an inhibitor to protect the system and, if you do not already have one, fit a magnetic filter to catch any sludge in the future.
West Berkshire has hard water, which makes scale build-up worse, so a flush is often worth doing before a new boiler goes on, and many manufacturers want the system cleaned to honour their warranty.
A typical house takes most of a day. You will notice the difference in how quickly the radiators get hot.

FAQs
Common questions
How do I know if I need a powerflush?
Cold spots at the bottom of radiators, dirty black water when you bleed a radiator, noisy pipes or a boiler that keeps cutting out are the usual signs.
Do I need a powerflush with a new boiler?
The system must be cleaned before a new boiler goes on, and most manufacturers need this for the warranty. Whether that is a full powerflush or a chemical clean depends on the state of the system.
How long does a powerflush take?
Most of a day for a typical house with eight to ten radiators.
